Mark Mathewson
Chief Information and Data Officer
Mark Mathewson serves as chief information and data officer for Ally Financial Inc. In this role, Mathewson is responsible for leading the company's technology and data organization across all functions and lines of business and driving the next phase of technology transformation for the nation’s largest all-digital bank and leading auto lender. He reports to Ally’s CEO.
Prior to joining Ally in 2026, Mathewson served as the divisional chief information officer for Capital One's retail banking and commercial banking units, where he oversaw technology teams across the United States, Mexico and India to deliver innovative technology solutions for consumers.
Over the course of his 12-year tenure at Capital One, Mathewson drove major tech transformations across the company building cloud native software platforms, modernizing legacy infrastructure, and driving innovation in developer experience and enterprise operating models in a variety of roles including divisional chief information officer of Risk & Finance, chief technology officer for Small Business & Canada Technology, and senior vice president of Card Technology. During his tenure, Mathewson led the migration of banking and data platforms to the cloud and drove technical delivery of a variety of innovative 'firsts' for the company including cardless ATM transactions, in-store cash deposits, kiosk-based cashier's checks, and the company's first no preset spend limit card among others.
Prior to Capital One, Mathewson held various executive leadership positions at Fortune 500 companies, startups, and management consulting organizations, including 12 years at Fannie Mae, where he advanced through a series of increasingly senior roles spanning application development, IT governance and project portfolio management. He also led the technology organizations for the capital markets and customer engagement teams. Earlier in his career, he served in technology consulting at Deloitte and held a role at early-stage technology startup admine.com.
Mathewson earned a bachelor's degree in computer information systems from James Madison University and an MBA from Georgetown University.
