HORSHAM, PA. - To celebrate women volunteerism and promote affordable housing, GMAC Mortgage is sponsoring eight Habitat for Humanity Builds including six Women's Builds in May. In total, more than 200 women across the country will give their help to build Habitat homes this month. For each female employee who volunteers at a Women's Build, GMAC Mortgage will donate $100 to the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate where she volunteers.
"Women are a big part of the volunteerism spirit in the company and in the community," said Carol Johnson, senior managing director of community relations of GMAC Mortgage. "In the month of Mother's Day, and in the spirit of nurturing, we hope that women who have yet to take part in community activities this year will be inspired to volunteer for the first time to improve the communities where we work and live."
The Women Build Program is a legacy of Habitat for Humanity International, a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating poverty housing. Since 1991, women volunteers have built more than 350 Habitat houses in the United States. Women from all over the country including first ladies, women governors, and female celebrities have been involved to nurture, recruit and train women to build and maintain simple, decent, healthy and affordable houses.
"GMAC Mortgage shares the vision of affordable housing with Habitat for Humanity and our partnership with Habitat is a way of making homeownership a dream come true for more people," said Johnson. "This year we plan to contribute $140,000 to Habitat chapters across the country including the sponsorship of three Habitat houses. Also, we will have more than 500 GMAC Mortgage volunteers helping on the construction of many Habitat houses across the country."
Here are six Women's Habitat Builds sponsored by GMAC Mortgage in May:
- May 9, Waterloo, Iowa, 20 volunteers (women only) from GMAC Mortgage
