James N. Young

James Young was named chief financial officer of Ally Bank in July 2013, and was appointed to Ally Bank’s board of directors in November 2013. In this role, he continues his responsibility for the oversight of all finance and treasury activities of the Bank. Previously, Young served chief financial executive for Ally Bank since 2011.

Young also served as chief financial officer for the mortgage operations of Ally Financial Inc. and Residential Capital, LLC (ResCap). In that role, he was responsible for financial oversight, analysis, controls and reporting, accounting and business planning for the company’s mortgage-related operations. Young also held a number of other leadership roles at the company, including deputy CFO, Residential Finance Group CFO, chief accounting officer and controller.

Prior to joining ResCap in 2005, Young was at KPMG LLP for 23 years, including 12 years as partner. During his tenure, he served many publicly-held financial institutions and worked in several key roles, including leader of the Chicago banking practice, the Midwest area banking practice development leader and SEC reviewing partner.

Young has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Luther College and is a certified public accountant.
