CHARLOTTE, N.C. – April 9, 2020 – Sunlight Financial, a leading technology-enabled, specialty finance company providing point-of-sale financing solutions for residential solar and home improvements and Ally Financial (NYSE: ALLY), a leading digital financial-services company, today announced a donation of $30,000 to the Atrium Health Essential Needs Fund to support COVID-19 relief efforts. The donation will help launch a campaign that will be used to provide meals to over 8,000 Atrium Health employees.

“We recognize there has never been a more critical time to deliver on Sunlight’s commitment to our communities,” said Sunlight Financial CEO Matt Potere. “As healthcare workers across the country are stepping forward at personal risk to address this public health challenge, they are logging long hours. Our hope is that this donation will make these healthcare workers’ days a little easier by providing much needed hot meals and, at the same time, support local restaurants struggling to stay afloat under stay at home orders and essential business limitations.”

What started as an idea from Sunlight’s CEO, Matt Potere, has quickly turned into an opportunity to join forces with local businesses, such as Ally Financial, to expand support relief and come together as a community.

“There has never been a more important time for Ally to demonstrate our commitment to ‘do it right’ for our communities,” said Ally Business Administration Executive and Head of Corporate Citizenship Alison Summerville. “This fund is a real win-win – assisting our crucial healthcare workers while supporting local businesses and their employees. We hope that other local companies will join Sunlight and Ally in giving back to those who are giving so much right now.”

Relief for Atrium Health Healthcare Employees
Ally Financial and Sunlight Financial worked closely with Atrium Health to ensure that all the company’s healthcare workers benefit from this relief effort. All healthcare employees will receive meal vouchers to several local restaurants.

“We are grateful to both of these organizations for stepping forward to generously support our caregivers and address the critical financial needs in our community,” said President of Atrium Health Foundation Armando Chardiet. “We look forward to many more partnerships like this. We are all in this together.”

Support for Local Restaurants
Recognizing that local restaurants have been impacted by COVID-19 developments, Ally and Sunlight worked together with Atrium to identify several restaurants nearby Atrium Health locations to offer meals for the company’s employees. Providing ease of access and considering food restrictions, local restaurants include Sabor Latin Street Grill, Three Amigos Mexican Grill, Showmars, Mama Ricotta’s, and Midwood Smokehouse.

“As we go through this very difficult time here in Charlotte during the COVID-19 outbreak, it is essential for us to remember the incredible work being done by our Atrium Health employees,” said FS Food Group CEO/Founder Frank Scibelli. “We are thankful to be a part of the Ally Financial and Sunlight Financial campaign to help nourish those individuals.”

“Showmars has been a part of the Charlotte community for nearly 40 years and, in that time, we’ve seen some of its darkest and brightest days,” said Showmars CEO Dean Peroulas. “We owe an incredible thank you to Ally and Sunlight Financial for the kindness and support that this opportunity is providing to our restaurants, who are fighting to withstand the COVID-19 pandemic. And, we are honored to partner with Ally and Sunlight to, in turn, provide this thank you to our everyday heroes who are risking so much to care for our Queen City.”

“Sabor Latin Street Grill and Three Amigos Mexican Grill and Cantina are very fortunate to be part of this initiative,” said Raydal Hospitality CEO Dalton Espaillat.  “This will help us keep our most vulnerable employees with the opportunity to keep working and at the same time participating in such a great cause to help our healthcare community. We are a second chance employer where some of our employees might not have access to resources provided by the government but we can do it through job opportunities and staying working during these difficult times.”
